As well as being one of the most successful writers in literary history, (Sherlock Holmes) Sir Arthur Conan Doyle also wrote the definitive work The History of Spiritualism in which he sought to chart modern Spiritualism from its true beginning at the dawn of mankind through to what was then the present day, 1926. A Scotsman, he ended his days in one of my favourite places on earth; a spiritual place of peace, Minstead. The church is up a hill and surrounded by trees, bracken, horses, birds and ancient trees. The grave is situated under a large oak tree and the Anglican church has provided visitors with a bench upon which to sit and take in the surroundings. You will note, as I did, a caressing branch resting on the cross.
