C

Cabala:    One of the world’s most ancient systems of mystical thought.  The human being has a “Spirit Body” which can travel free of the physical body to a higher plane of existence.  Originally a collection of Jewish doctrines regarding the nature of the universe.  It was said to be handed down by Moses to the rabbis, which evolved into a mystical way of interpreting the Old testament.  Sources also found or ‘lifted’ from Egyptian systems.  Each word has a numerical value and meaning and by reading the scriptures’ numerology one can unlock hidden meanings.  Cabala means “The Words Received”, or “Hidden Wisdom” in Hebrew.  It purports to offer a way of understading God and universe.  The Cabala is mostly complementary and rarely contradictory.  It was written from the times of Christ.  The most important book of which is “The Book of Creation”.  This was written between the 2nd and 6th centuries A.D. and “The Book of Splendour” by the 13th century Spaniard Moses de Leon.
    The Cabala essentially tries to reconcile the contradictions between a God who is known, and a God who is unknowable.  Also between a God of good and creator of all things and a world in which evil is the dominant force.  Also between a God of eternity and everlasting life and a world that is so obviously finite in its entirety.  The name for the arcane number system of interpretation is “Gematria”.

Canticle:    A short hymn composed of Biblical words.

Calvinism:    John Calvin.  1509-64.  Through his book “Institutions of the Christian Religion”, he defined and justified Protestantism.  This made him the intellectual leader of the Reformation whereas Martin Luther was it’s emotional leader.  Concerning predestination, God has destined some souls to salvation through grace and perseverance whilst others are destined to eternal damnation.  Many schools of thought link calvanism with the growth of Capitalism.

Cardinal:    High ranking clergyman of the R.C. Church who elects the Pope and acts as advisor to the Pontiff.  A phase of the Moon.

Catacombs:    Underground burial sight with tunnels containing recess chambers for sarcophagus’.

Cartomancy:    Fortune Telling.  Predicting the future from Tarot Cards.  (see Tarot).

Catalepsy:    Trance-like state with the physical body rigid and the conscious mind in a state of total insensibility. Jesus never said Lazarus was dead; it was others who said he was dead. "I will wake him from his sleep", said Jesus. Lazarus was thought to be cataleptic. Jesus wept at their ignorance.

Catechism:    A series of questions and answers in a Christian Church.

Catastrophism:    To do with Immanuel Velikovsky 1950.

“In the lifetime of Yao, the sun did not for ten full days and the entire land was flooded .. [by an immense wave] that reached the sky”.  Canons of the Chinese Emporor Yao B.C 2400c.

“At the same time the seas were heaped up in immense tides, a pageant went on in the sky which presented itself to the horrified onlookers on earth as a gigantic battle.”  Immanuel Veliikovsky, “World In Collision”.  1950.

Velikovsky (1895-1979).  In his book he put forward perhaps one of the most provocative catastrophe theories ever.  The planet Venus is only recent in the Solar System and on two occasions has caused massive, violent upheavals on earth.  The establishment tried desperately to suppress his book’s publication resulting in the Macmillan publishing house dropping his contract.  However, it fast became a bestseller all over the world.  Velikovsky The Establishment reacted so vehemently on account of his high academic status, his associations with the greatest thinking minds of the 20th century, Einstein (science), Freud (Psychology), Marx (politics).  He was far from being a crank.  He was extremely interested in the ancient legends of catastrophe and how analogous they were.  It occurred to him that they could all hold some historical truth.  Unlike other ‘cranks’, Velikovsky was able to draw on his vast intellectual talents to explain his arguments.  In his follow up books, “Ages in Chaos”, and “Earth in Upheavel”, the planet Venus was ejected from out of Jupiter in ancient times like a huge fireball.  Venus flew past earth around 1500 B.C causing great upheavals such as earthquakes, tidal waves and mass destruction.  It included the destruction of Atlantis and the earth’s axis tilted.  In the 8th century B.C Venus came so close to Mars that it abberated it’s orbit and caused near collision with earth a number of times finally settling in 687 B.C.  Venus’ unusual features are sighted by Velikovsky as proof for his theories such as it’s high temperature, irregular orbit and dense atmosphere.  Space Probes sent to Venus have confirmed many of Velikovsky’s predictions, though not all.

Cathedral:    The principle Church of a diocese.

Catholicism:    Catholic refers to all Christians on the one part and on the other, it refers to a particular group, Roman Catholics.  Were Eastern Orthodox, C. of E. and other churches consider themselves ‘catholic’, they mean,

A) Christ’s Church on the grounds of faith, order and organisation.
B) Necessity of “liturgical” worship through Holy Communion, Baptism, etc.
C) Continuity of Christian tradition using ancient creeds, i.e, Apostolic and Nicene.
D) Traditional ministry as succession from early practices.

Christian Spiritualists, along with Quakers, Christian Scientists and [perhaps all] others are regarded as ‘Sects’.  Roman Catholicism has the Pope as leader and the Vatican Councils and Cardinals as having a monopoly over scriptural interpretation.  The Pope recognised therefore as the rightful successor to St. Peter whom Jesus appointed head of the Church.  The central service is the Mass or Holy Eucharist.  The seven sacraments are;
            Baptism,
            Confirmation,
            Eucharist,
            Penance,
            Extreme Unction,
            Orders,
            Marriage
...administered through the Priesthood.  Saints and Martyrs play a huge part in Catholic tradition where “Faith” and perseverance lead to God.  We are blind to faith and somewhat to God but if we follow Christ’s teachings then however blind we are, through the will of God then its okay because God will deliver us.  Go to Church each week, live by the commandments, take Holy Communion, confess, etc, and you will be delivered.  The Roman Church is not so clear on Satan and his abode.

Celestial:    Divine heavenly bodies of the sky.

Centaur:    Horse-like mythical creature with the arms, body and head of a man.

Central Premonition Or Registry for Prophetic Dreams:    Started in 1968 by Robert Nelson. He promised to catalogue and record all prophetic dreams sent to him at a New York P.O Box to see if any could be analogous with actual events.  Natural disasters, earthquakes and the like were what he was searching for.  These letters were categorised under headings such as Politics, Air Disasters, etc.  Usually recognised as prophetic dreams by the dreamer's testimony that they are reoccurring.  “Strong emotional impact”, “Vivid colour” and/or the feeling that they were merely an observer.

Chakras: The word is Sanscrit and signifies ‘wheel’.  Part of ancient Hindu philosophy and Yoga teachings.  They are ‘psychic sense organs’ of extreme beauty and subtle complexity.  They are also resplendent in myriad colours as described by generations of clairvoyants.  These centres channel psychic and vital energy forces.  They are inextricably linked to the glandular and nervous system.  Serving as they do, the link between several states of consciousness, i.e.; the physical, the psychic and the purely spiritual states of consciousness.

These ‘disks’, ‘vortices’ or ‘wheels’ have also been described by the Chinese as ‘petals’ which open and close like the real thing.

As with the Aura, imagination and visualisation play a huge part in opening and closing these centres.  The colour emanations are  The Eyes of The Soul and The Code of The Spirit.  Open these points in order to increase vitality, healing force, etc. Start with the Root Chakra at the base of the spine, Kunadini Ring. Warning – once opened they must be closed.

Chaldeans Numbers:    According to scholars, the Chaldeans were the intellectual founders of Astrology.  They were successors to the ancient Sumerians.  They believed that each letter of the alphabet resonates to a particular vibration and number.  Keywords are given to each single (1-9) number and each compound number, (10 to infinity).

    1: Creativity
    2: Gentle
    3: Ambition
    4: Sensitivity
    5: Impulse
    6: Sensual
    7: Independence
    8: Misunderstanding
    9: Determination
    10: Honour
    11: Danger
    12: Suffering

Once you get into compound numbers then you can subdivide then into their single numbers especially where there are numbers that go into the hundreds.  Also, each letter of the alphabet is represented thus:

    A = 1    N = 5
    B = 2    O = 7
    C = 3    P = 8
    D = 4    Q = 1
    E = 5    R = 2
    F = 8    S = 3
    G = 3    T = 4
    H = 5    U = 6
    I  = 1    V = 6
    J = 1    W = 6
    K = 2    X = 5
    L = 3    Y = 7
    M = 4    Z = 7

Obviously no real room for detail here and further reading is recommended.  13 is said to be unlucky as there were thirteen including Jesus at the last supper.  It is divided by the seven, the spirit number and the six, the devil number.  This is the origin of the saying that someone is at sixes and sevens. Generally speaking;

14 is lucky, as are all harmonics of the 5, though this number symbolises being at the mercy of the elements.

15 indicates that this person will long be remembered after their passing.

16 Naturally psychic though not always lucky.

17 can indicate great spiritual understanding in a person.

18 is very much a power number, as are all the harmonics of the number 9.  This means that if coupled with a good or bad number, it will boost its power.  On its own, not very powerful, depending on the individual.

19 Very powerful as it contains the number of God (1) and the number of man (9).

20 Gentle.  All numbers with ‘0’ in them also mean remembered long after passing.

21 is the crown of the universe and represents that which is long struggled for in the face of great adversity.  You will get what you want in the end.

22 As with all multiples of the ‘11’, it symbolises hidden danger and strange fatality.  All 11’s are ominous to occultists.

Numbers, in addition to their Chaldean/Biblical significance have been used to help understand great dates, events and disasters throughout history.  By simply cross-referencing what the numbers mean with the names, places and dates of certain occurances, the hidden meanings behind such events can be uncovered, i.e. the Kennedy assassinations.

Channel:    Often derided as a derogatory term for receiving the spirit.  In America, mediums are ‘Channellers’.  The Holy Roman Catholic Church is at pains to point out to people the foibles of channelling; that it is the work of the devil.

Chant:    Repeated sound, psalm, song or word used to invoke or achieve an altered state of consciousness.

Chapel:    A small room or annexe used for religious worship consisting of its own alter.  Also non-conformist place of worship.

Charismatics:    This is the term used in R.C. to the likes of certain Priests and non clerics. Christina Gallagher, and Padre Pio, the recent stigmatas.  It refers to their power to influence and attract others.  People who also have huge auras.

Cherub:    Angelic spirit child.

Christ:    The Messiah thought by Christians to be Jesus of Nazareth. It is said that difference between Jews and Christians is that Christians believe Jesus to be the Messiah whereas the Jews believe he is yet to come. Universal love. We all have the Christ light in us.

Christian and Christianity:    A religion founded around the teachings and life of Jesus of Nazareth as reported in the New Testament.  Simple though his teachings were, it was, as with Buddhism 600 years earlier, complicated by multiple interpretations on the part of Christians throughout the ages.  The word of God is the Bible and is not open to change.  See ‘Catholicism’.

Christian Scientist Mary Baker Eddy  (1821-1910):    Determined to reinstate healing and early Christianity.  Healing was looked upon as a lost element.  “Science With Health And Key To The Scriptures" (1891).  “Nothing is real save God and his Spiritual creation”.  The nature of mankind is good and spiritual.  The material world, evilness, death and illness are unreal.  These things are real to us only because of our ignorance of God himself.  Christian Scientists therefore steer clear of medicine, surgery and the like, relying solely on the healing power of God.

Mary Baker Eddy was ignorant of “science” itself and to this extent, the title of her religion is misleading.  One can only surmise that what is meant by ‘science’ is, divine law as practised in the New Testament.  She was healed by a Healer called Quimby, after which she gave up her beliefs in Spiritualism and focused instead on divine cures to illnesses.

It is said that if you have total, unquestioning faith in the healing power of Jesus Christ, then you can overcome any condition of mind, body and spirit.  One thing they cannot reconcile is when one of their number fall sick and die … it is said, doctrinally, that they have lacked the necessary ‘faith’, the movement’s key principle.

Chirognomy:    Reading character in the lines of the hand.  Not telling the future, only character.  Quite popular.

Christen:    To name, baptise in the sight of God.  (See ‘Naming’).

Church:    A place of religious worship.  Churches have been at the forefront of architecture through the ages.  ‘What is architecture without God?’  Are there churches in the Spirit World?  Sanctuary.

Apart from being a building of religious worship, is a temple of light.  There is a Church within us all though at the same time there are no reports of there being any Churches in the Spirit World.  In days of old, the Alter of the Church-to-be was divinated using the invisible energies from ley-lines.  Christ Church is an excellent example of where the direct centre point of the alter is the convergence of a number of key ley-lines that extend the length and breadth of the country.  Many old churches were built on ancient ritual sites.  In the book of Revelations there are seven Churches.

    A The active Church, sound in Doctrine but deficient in love.
    B The Poor Church but rich in Spirit
    C The heretical Church
    D The Church of false Prophets
    E The Dying Church
    F The Loyal Church
    G The Lukewarm, self satisfied Church.

Churches 'B' and 'F' are how I like to think of my own church, Waterloo...

Cheops Pyramid:    Massive subject. Orthodoxy has its completion about 2570 B.C., though the site-plan and perhaps the structure itself could go back 12,500 BC ~ [See Atlantis].  Mysterious constructed pyramid that perhaps will always be an enigma.  There is evidence that it was the intended resting place of King Cheops who ruled 1,200 years before Tutankhamen.  In spite of all the evidence pointing towards it being the burial place of Cheops and his Queen, the first recorded entry into the construction uncovered neither treasures, mummies or any signs that they were ever in fact buried there.

It is of immense size and intricacy.  This has given birth to much speculation inviting theories that it is a legacy of inter galactic/planetary visitors.  That it is the key to Atlantis.  That it contains many predictions concerning the future of life on earth.  Also that it is a huge observatory.  The Cheops pyramid is also a lost source of energy, namely the ‘vrill’ power.

Built of limestone, it took nearly two and a half million blocks each weighing in average 2.5 tons to build.  It is actually taller that a forty storey building!  The sides rise from the ground at a constant 51°.  As with Mayan structures, it is almost impossible, even today, to insert a sharp knife blade between the mortar free blocks.

But one of the underlying strange things about Cheops was when it was first broken into by Abdullah Al Mamun, in A.D 820, 3, 390 years after its completion, he found no signs of any previous entry.  Amongst his party were scientists of the day.  Listed here are some interesting facts about Cheops.

The Biblical cubit was used measuring approximately 25 ins and was in turn based on the earth’s axis.  Divide the axis by 400,000 and this gives you the Biblical cubit.

Charles Piazzi Smyth, Royal Scottish Astronomer discovered that the base of the Pyramid when divided by the width of the casing stone gave you 365, the number of days in the year.  He also discovered the Pyramid inch, 1/25th of a paving stone, was also 1/10,000,000th of the earth’s polar radius.  When applying the Pyramid inch to every dimension of the Great Pyramid, with every inch representing a one year, then the key dates of the earth’s past, present and future could be calculated. What is certainly not in question is the remarkable skill of the Egyptian astronomer/architects.  The great Pyramid at Cheops was a celestial observatory.

Circle: Click Me!There are numerous types of Circle, outlined here are the most common.
1:  Closed/Private/Development Circles are namely either in a person’s home or in a Church with the consent of the Church Committee.  The main purpose being the development of the Medium.  These are advanced circles and only for the disciplined sitter who has demonstrated promise.  A blend of like minds.  Sometimes we cannot all get along, so the circle must be constituted only of souls who get along with one another.  Usually they are for the development of one person with the other sitters sending their thoughts and power to the student.  Students are chosen carefully.

Some Church circles rotate the person sitting for development so that a number have the chance of developing.  The circle leader is ultimately responsible at all times for the running of the circle and it is incumbent upon all members to be punctual and consistent.  The leader should be someone who commands the respect of the circle and inspires confidence and trust within the group.  Only a trained, time-served Medium should ever take a circle in order that they may tune-in with each person's Spirit Guides.  There is a whole plethora of rules for circles that are sensible and common sense, like not sitting when ill, etc.  Perhaps the strictest rules apply to the Physical Circle.

Healing Circle  is where those to be healed, and the leader, sit in a circle where various methods are used.  For example; after the opening prayer, the leader will ask people to send out thoughts of healing to themselves, to each other and to the world.  Visualisation and imagination may also play a part.  Especially under a strong red light, the energies that can be built up carry with them a special kind of strength.  In some Churches, people prefer it to laying on of hands!  No clairvoyance is ever allowed in a Healing Circle as they are totally different vibrations.

Open Circle is a Church activity.  Usually held once a week, it gives opportunity to all, irrespective of their level of development, to work in public.

Interim Circle is aimed at those students not quite ready for the Church Development Circle, but whom it is thought will progress.  Though it is true to say that not everyone in the interim circle will make it into the Advanced Circle.  All circles are run through the leadership of one person who is sympathetic to all people and conditions.

Clairaudience/Clairaudient: Click Me! To clearly hear Spirit.

Claircognizance:  Click Me! To clearly ‘know’ spirit.  Acquiring knowledge through spirit.  Perception of knowledge through spirit.

Clairvoyance: Click Me! To clearly see spirit. ‘Clairvoyant’.Travelling Clairvoyance is a bi-location phenomena as practiced by Jesus and Padre Pio. Of course they weer no the only exponents of such a gift, but they are perhaps the most notable. Common with transcendentalists too. The spirit body appears solid in another location while the host body rest in a sleep or altered state of consciousness.

Close Encounters:    As Steven Speilberg said, “CE3K is when you meet them!”  Encounters of the 1st kind relates to seeing them, say, in the sky as a saucer.  The 2nd kind is where after seeing say, a saucer, you are left  a mark, burn or some other such tangible anomaly ~ including a power failure like in a house or with your car. The 3rd kind is outright abduction.

Coincidence:    Ranging from the bizarre to the quite ordinary.  Essentially, where an individual experiences events, times and dates that seem to defy all logical explanation.  For example, further to our regular experience, these coincidences go beyond the normal order of things.  These experiences inspire a deeper thinking into the meaning of life, the greater plan and sometimes how powerless we are to affect  our destiny.  Beyond mere accident, those who have experienced coincidence are often changed by the event.

Colour:    The Code of the Spirit and the Eyes of the Soul!  Click Me!  Recognised by Spiritualists as a form of communication.  Colour plays no less a part in spirit life than it does in this life.  Think how important colour is in out world.  Colour in the auric fields give indication as to the physical, mental and spiritual condition of the sitter.

Communion:    (Christianity) The sharing of consecrated bread and wine during Mass.  Also the definitive book by Whitley Streiber about his abduction by Aliens.  Also, forms part of number three of the Seven Principles as adopted by the Spiritualists throughout the world.  Generally regarded in Spiritualism as a form of triangulisation.  For example, the Healer is one, the spirit operators are two and the healing energy and result is the third, thereby producing a communion by two things coming together to produce a third!

Communication:    A contact between an incarnate and discarnate spirit.

Complimentary:    Refers to healing therapies that in no way replaces orthodox medicine but merely compliments it!  Unacceptable to much of the establishment as there is no logical system of diagnosis or application.  Criticised because of its apparent reversion to ancient practices and – where available – ancient texts.

Conditions:    This is what Spiritualists refer to as essential for the right communication to take place.  Where and when the conditions are right, only then can works be done.  Jesus left a number of places where there was scepticism and disbelief.  We must endeavour to always make the conditions right!

Confirmation:    Apart from one of the seven sacred sacraments in Catholicism, Spiritualists use this term when say, we have been given a new guide, helper or contact from the Spirit World, it is usually advisable to await a confirmation from another medium.

Confuscianism:    (Latinised version of Kung-Fu-tzu).  551 b.c.  Therefore, a contemporary of Buddha.  He was a practical man and strove to reform the feudal system.  As with Buddha, gods or a god played little part in his philosophy or teachings.  The example set by the Ruler influenced the subjects’ respectively.  When dealing with nobility , he was suitably upright.  When dealing with those beneath his station, her was suitably lofty.  Etiquette, ceremony and tradition played a huge part in his outlook.  He believed that in this world virtue brought its own reward.  Politeness, when universal, reduced jealousy and quarrels.  “Reverence the spirits but keep them far off”.  Your class is predecided.  Destiny is another name for Nature.  Prayer, therefore is unnecessary.  For having received his destiny from nature he can then demand and obtain from nature what he chooses.  Your own freewill decides all things.  The development of Confuscianism is due entirely to his followers/students collecting his teachings together.  (Wu-Ching) ‘Five Classics’, and the ‘Shih Shu’  (Four books) contain the Analects – The Great Learning, the Doctrine of the Mean and the Book of Mencius.  Alongside Toaism and Buddhism, Confuscianism became one of China’s main religions.  Looked upon in China as ‘a popular reactionist’.  He has tremendous endurance and today, as with Buddhism, he has been [mistakenly] defiled.

Congregation & Congregationalists:    The former refers to assembled group of worshippers.  The latter refers to the
 Protestant denomination where each church is self governing.  It is the oldest sect of non conformists.

a) Jesus Christ is the true head of the Church
b) Contrary to Elizabethan doctrine, the Church had no relation to the state
c) The only statute book was the Bible whereas the Articles of Religion and the Common Prayer were mere Acts of Parliament
d) Each congregation of believers was independent and had the right to choose its own Ministers rather than the Bishops. Rather like Spiritualists, the latter.

There is much written about the Congregationalists who have certainly had a chequered history.  In 1972 the Congregation Church in England and Wales and the Presbyterian Church of England decided to unite to form the United Reform Church.

Contact:    When relating a message during a Spiritualist service the medium will become aware of a spirit contact.  Sometimes the hardest part of receiving communication for the medium is in keeping hold of the contact, especially for the fledgling.

Contact Healing:    Where the healer will make physical contact with the patient.  Usually this is specifically requested or realised by the healer in cases of special need and comfort.

Control:    Essentially, the medium is always the control, but there are those on the other side who act as controllers during communication across the spectrum of demonstrating disciplines.

Corinthian Church:    Based on the New Testament letters of Paul where the Spiritual Gifts are outlined.  Great stress is laid on the development of the healing power.  Although analogous with Spiritualism, the Corinthian Church finds the Spiritualist label an anathema.  They are Christians in the true Biblical sense.  If you accept Corinthians 1 and 11 with their amendments, then you would make a good Corinthian.  They hold no creed or dogma.  The practice of the Corinthian Church is to teach the psychic sciences as laid down in the Corinthians 1 and 11.  They do not practice or teach the occult.  They instead, teach the dangers that exist to those who practice the sciences.  The Church of the Corinthians is a Church of Holy Light.  The path they try to tread is the path of Jesus and his disciples, by Martin Luther King and many others who have tried to bring peace and goodwill in our time through their greater knowledge, courage and understanding.  Such people are sighted by them as leaving our world a much better place than when they entered.

Essentially described as a Healing Ministry, clairvoyance also has its place along with crystals, etc.  The Church itself was founded in 1992 and has since grown into an international Church.  Also, it is a requirement of the Church that its Ministers wear clerical garb.  Their criticism of other churches, namely Spiritualist Churches, is their reluctance to ordain Ministers unless they are strewn with cobwebs and are in a questionable state of cognizance and health! re; ~SNU

Cosmic/Cosmos:    Of the whole universe.

Covens:    This is [essentially] the meeting place of witches.

Coptic Church:    This is a sect of Egyptian Christians who deny the two natures of Christ, i.e. that he was God and Man.  In 451 the Council of Chalcedon declared them heretical.  They practice circumcision and have dietary codes.  Their Patriarch is the religious head of Alexandria. They are a branch of Eastern Christianity. Formed by St. Athenasius who rejected the church's conspicuous wealth, worldliness and asked the question, 'Is this really the way Christ would like us to live?' Founder of the Monastic Movement who's work was re-written by the Vatican Council in an attempt to make him the flag-bearer [post mortem] for the orthodox church!

Robert Bauval says in his book, Secret Chamber[Sphinx] "the Latin words, 'Annuit Ceoptis' apparently mean 'he is the beginning', yet the similarity of the word 'Coeptis' with 'Copti', which means 'ancient Egyptians', and which also denotes the nine-million modern-day Christian Egyptians, is striking".

Creation:    The point at which all things come into being.  The Biblical Creation is outlined in the Book of Genesis. Author, Moses.  The Big Bang Theory is that which astronomers and astro-physicists alike, point to as the point of creation where all the universe was created out of a single moment from the size [possibly] of a single atom.

Creeds:    Religious system of belief or, as in the Christian Church, a statement of beliefs.

Cro-Magnon Man:    Early modern man.  He is attributed as the first man to measure time and chart the star patterns and thereby discern the changing seasons.  He lived some 32,000 plus years before the birth of Christ.  He was the author of great stories and the artist behind great cave paintings.

Cross, The:    Symbol of human anatomical form. The symbol of Christianity and Christ’s death on the for our sins to be forgiven.  The Good News, as with the Cross-, points to all points on the compass.  “NEWS” is said to have originated by taking the first letter of north, south, east and west.  The Spiritualists' National Union has banned crosses from its churches, however, Waterloo Spiritualist Church, including many others, choose to ignore this 'General Requirement'. A point of much angst, acrimony and contention within those Churches SNU affiliated.

Crucifixion:    The culmination of Christ’s passion where he died for our sins.  This final act of sacrifice.  The centrepiece of the Christian religion.  Much prophesised in the Old Testament and fulfilled in the New Testament. Spiritualist ~ even staunch Christian Spiritualists ~ do not hold with the edict that he died for our sins. We progress only by our own efforts.

Crusade:    Refers to mediaeval Christian Holy Wars to recover from the Muslims, the Holy Lands.

Crystals:    Occurring naturally in the earth’s crust.  They are usually found one mile beneath the surface. There are far too many to itemise here.  Since ancient times, they have had a fascination for Witch Doctors and healers alike.  Some claim they help them with their meditation and clairvoyance.  It is said that a crystal picks you and not you it.  Uncut crystals are said to possess the greatest power as they have not been machined or exposed to cutting that the polished crystal has.  Vibrations are extremely important with crystals, and having once acquired the crystal you must allow no one to touch it.  If this should happen then you must run it under a cold tap for at least a minute.  This will neutralise any tarnishing influence.  You must tune in your crystal for the specific purpose you want it for, i.e. healing, clairvoyance, etc.  If you have a collection of crystals, it is said to be a good idea to group them together as they recharge and feed each other.  Many, many books have been written on the subject and further study is advisable. I will introduce a link to a page for crystals and their care, shortly.

Crystal Skulls:    Extraordinary artefacts of the ancient world.  Made of quartz-based crystal, they bare testimony to the extraordinary skill of ancient craftsmen who made them.  Superior knowledge of optics is required to produce a [quartz] skull.  Used in the Americas by such as the Mayans to divinate and as oracles.  There have been numerous phenomena attached to them including museums reporting them moving around of their own free will.  Also, those in private ownership, the owners reporting hearing the skulls talking to them, especially in the dream state.  They are said to be a window on the universe.  In 1996, the Natural History Museum in London looked at one of these skulls. Whereas with  other skulls it announced them as either genuine or fake, with this particular American skull said to be the greatest of all and containing the key to destiny and God. They refused to publish their findings upon use of new technology, including electron microscope.  It is said to be not all that unusual to think of these crystal skulls as tools of communication and perhaps its not all that unusual to regard them as such when most of today’s technology, too, relies heavily on crystal and quartz, especially for communication and computation!

Cryptomnesia:    This is where the unconscious mind suddenly comes to the fore of consciousness and the individual suddenly begins speaking in a language he had never studied before or known of.  Usually during an Altered State of Consciousness.  Plagiarizism is often sighted in this way too.

Cult:    A system of worship and belief that is specific.  It is a devotion to and the idea and/or a person.

Curse:  See ‘Accursed’.

C.S.N.U.:    Certificate of the Spiritualist National Union.

C.S.A.:    Christian Spiritualist Association.  Formed by Ray Williams in April 1977. Initially began in Cardiff, Wales, it is now recognised in several countries. Its aims and objectives are to achieve an acceptable standard within the Christian Spiritualist Religion.  As well as providing help and advice to centres, churches and sanctuaries, the society also provides training, help and advice to speakers and mediums.  The society has the power to award certificates, diplomas and appoint and ordain Ministers.  They also have a quarterly magazine called the KEY.  The Healer Practitioner Association is a subsidiary charity of the organisation.

Compatible with all spiritualist organisations, save the SNU.  The SNU have categorically stated the CSA’s incompatibility.  This stance does not do spiritualism any good, it merely bares out what Arthur Conan Doyle said in the 'History of Spiritualism', that instead of recognising the obvious similarities between all Spiritualists, the small differences between each is instead highlighted to the point of being ludicrous!  Unlike the Greater World Spiritualists, the CSA has a large constitution and some critics of officiousness have pointed to its extensiveness.

     Here are its Principles;

     WE BELIEVE IN
The Fatherhood of God and the Brotherhood of all life.

     WE TEACH THAT
Each individual is personally responsible for all actions, deeds be they good or bad.  That any wrong doing can only be corrected by the individual.

     WE ACCEPT THE
Teachings and example which was demonstrated by Jesus, the Christ.  That we will at all times try to live by that example.

     WE KNOW THAT
Communion with the Spirit World is possible.  That Spirit teachers and Healers return to earth conditions to provide help for those who stand in need.
